I still feel like a little boy within. I have a hard time peering into the mirror and recognizing a real mature man. You would have believed the delivery of my 2nd child might have altered it, yet I still appear to be in denial of the aging process.
In regards to aging — or rather putting it off — my dear wife and I recently moved into a brand new home and this home features enough space in the basement for the exercise room my dear wfe had always sought. I’m seeing dollar signs when I ponder the many large and tiny things necessary, from the required but oft-forgotten weight-lifting benches and exercise mats to deciding on the best of the many exercise bikes. Stationary bikes can be difficult these days. Do I go recumbent or upright stationary bike? Should I choose a digital or analog?
My wife appears set on getting one of those elliptical machines as well. You understood that correctly. A stationary bike and an elliptical trainer — not just one or the other. My guess is that the extra exercise equipment goes with the stretch mark treatment she started utilizing after she bore our youngest child. Oh boy I’m gonna get it for that jest.
I must be deliberate with our budget because our new house is a bit more of a diamond in the rough. We required it this way, yet we still must carefully budget everything, down to the cabinet knobs (no joke). My dear wife has a pretty ambitious kitchen refacing design plotted, but I have to remind her the sinks for the bathrooms she wants put in will set us back a fair amount, as well.
Thankfully, we both like the rustic, organic look, so we are furnishing our new house with unfinished furniture. It still requires a little polishing off, but we can keep the costs down and make better furniture than we might purchase in any store. I discovered a good coffee table with some nice, raw knotting and a entryway table in matching mahogany.
And then there’s the great outdoors. For our patio outside we’re exploring an outdoor fireplace and we will go with some inexpensive wicker furniture initially.
Furnishing a brand new house might seem so adult, but I cannot help but sense I am merely playing house. The new exercise equipment and furniture merely feel as a new era of playthings.
