Do you have questions about filing your personal income taxes? The following information will help you answer some of those questions.

Where Do I Start?

When filing your personal taxes there are a few things to consider. I’m sure your first priority is to maximize your refund or reduce your tax liability to the IRS. The first thing you must consider is whether you will take the standard deduction or itemize your deductions.

There are online tax calculators available that will help determine which is best for you. All you have to do is just answer a few questions with basic information and then it does the work for you.

What Can I Deduct On My Tax Return?

The standard deduction is an amount already set by the IRS and is determined by your filing status. The following amounts are the set standard deduction for the 2009 tax year per filing status.

Single: $5,700

Head of Household: $8,350

Married Filing Joint: $11,400

Married Filing Separately: $5,700

Qualifying Widow/Widower: $11,400

Dependent: $950-$5,700

The following are some of the most common deductions taken if itemizing your deductions:

Mortgage Interest

Property Taxes

Charitable Contributions

Medical Expenses (must exceed 7.5% of your Annual Gross income)

Tools and Supplies For Work

Some Legal Fees

How do I file my return?

There are several of ways to file your return. The easiest and fastest way is to e-file your return. E-filing electronically submits your return to the IRS. Other options include mailing your return to the IRS which can take up to 6 weeks to receive your refund.

Can I check the status of my return?

If you e-file your return you will be given an estimated date as to when you can expect your refund. You can also go to the IRS website and enter some basic information from your return and track your refund.

For more information on filing your personal income tax return visit TurboTax Online. TurboTax Online will let you know when your return has been accepted and when to expect your refund.

When you go on vacation to somewhere tropical and exciting like Hawaii, you should think about all the important items you need to pack. Hawaii vacations are fun for everyone and thinking carefully about what you need to take with you will make a huge difference to your vacation time. Here are some ideas.

Clothing: When you pack for your vacation in Hawaii you’ll need to pack a few different items of clothing. Don’t just assume that it will be hot there all the time. Take a warm top and trousers as well just in case. You should also carry a rain jacket in case of a downpour. And, of course, don’t forget swimming gear and beach sandals.

Things to do: When you pack for your trip you might think that packing activities are useless. Well, it is better to be well prepared. You might find that you want to stay in on a rainy day, or you might want to read a book while catching up on your tan. Also, if you have kids then you will need to take some games for them, in case you go on a long car ride somewhere.

Camera: Don’t forget your camera. This is an important item as you’ll want to take photos of all the great places you visit. You can also enjoy taking videos if you have a video camera. Also make sure you take some back up batteries, and of course more than one memory card.

Travelers Checks: It is always safer to carry around travelers check instead of money. Be sure to get this sorted out before you leave on the plane. The last thing you want to do is have your vacation ruined because you somehow lost, or misplaced, your money.

Fishing Gear: Hawaii is known as one of the top fishing spots, and there are also great opportunities for scuba diving and snorkeling. You can take this equipment with you if you like, or you can also rent it from the different beach and activities rental companies.

These are just some of the items you need to think about packing when you go to Hawaii, but to make sure you don’t forget anything, be sure to plan your packing with a list. Then relax and enjoy your Hawaii vacation knowing you have everything you need!

Looking for an all inclusive Hawaii vacation? GreatHawaiiVacations.net provides detailed information to finding a Kauai vacation package or Maui vacation packages.

Knowing how to select the best acoustic guitar for you and how to identify a bad one, will save you from countless headaches, not to mention finger aches.

Acoustic guitar bodies come in basically the same hourglass shape, with some variations, but they do vary in size, color, wood-type, style, and extra features. You can even buy an acoustic guitar so small that fits into a hiking backpack.

Guitars come in a very wide range of prices, but when it comes to instruments, in general, you get what you pay for, especially when you buy new. There’s a real difference between getting a bargain and buying cheap.

But whether you buy new or used may be determined by many personal factors including your budget, and each has their own pros and cons.

Buying new, gives you a warranty and, hopefully, a return period, if for some reason you’re not totally satisfied with your purchase, or something goes wrong.

Under ‘usual’ circumstances, a used guitar can usually be purchased cheaper and has already gone through its “break-in” period.

Commercially built guitars, such as a Gibson acoustic guitar are usually mass manufactured. “Custom-made” guitars are exactly that. They are custom built and tailored to your specifications by a highly skilled guitar maker.

Prices for a custom-built guitar vary considerably, depending on the skill level of the craftsperson you contract the job to, but, as a rule, they are generally quite higher than a commercially built guitar of “similar” quality. Each custom built guitar is unique and therefore hard to compare in price to a commercially built guitar.

FOR THE “GURUS

Understanding some of the parts of a guitar will definitely help you when it comes to the Pre-Purchase Checklist.

BODY: This is the part with the sound hole in the front. It is where the strumming is done, and it can vary in size. The actual size, shape, type of wood, coating, and general build of the body also affects how the guitar will “sound”, whether it’s a rich and warm sound, or a thin and ‘twangy’ sound. The body tends to be the part that also gets scratched, damaged, and generally banged-up the most.

NECK: This is the long piece extending from the body and ends at the ‘head’ of the guitar where the ‘Tuning Heads’ are, also known as ‘machine heads’. The strings travel from the ‘Bridge’ on the body, across the sound hole, along the ‘Fret Board’, which is attached to the front-side of the neck, and finally arriving at the tuning heads where they are wrapped around tuning posts. The tuning heads are then turned by hand, which then turns the posts, making the strings tighter or looser, thus affecting their ‘tuning’. Necks tend to warp and twist if not looked after, or if the guitar is left propped against a heat source.

BRIDGE: The Bridge is normally located on the front of the body, by the sound hole, and on the side of the hole opposite to the neck. The strings are usually fed through the bridge first before they cross the hole and travel up the neck to the tuning heads. The bridge is like an anchor-point for the strings. Metal bridges are best, but on most acoustics they are either hard plastic or wood. Bridges have a tendency to crack and split over a long period of time.

FRET BOARD: The fret board is glued to the front of the neck. This is the part you press the strings onto to make chords or play individual notes. Because it’s glued on separately, a fret board can be made of a wood that’s different from the neck.

The strings travel over the fret board and the distance they are above the fret board makes a difference to the playability of the guitar. If the strings are too far above the fret board, then they will be hard to press down, making the guitar hard to play.

When a beginner plays a guitar, initially his or her fingertips are very soft and need to be hardened. A guitar with the strings too far above the fret board, also known as having a ‘high action’, will cause the player’s fingers to hurt so much that they are likely to put the guitar away in discouragement and possibly stop playing altogether.

STRINGS: Acoustic guitar strings, come in a wide variety of ‘flavors’. They can be made out of nylon, brass, steel, or a combination. Nylon strings are usually only found on Classical guitars and Student guitars, because they’re easier on the fingertips. They have a rich, warm sound to them.

Strings sets come in different ‘weights’, or sizes. Strings that come from a package marked ‘Heavy’ are usually quite thick in size and sound “beefy”. Strings that are light, or extra light, are very thin and usually have a brighter sound to them, but are also quieter sounding than heavy strings.

String choices are purely personal taste. Light strings are easier to press than heavy strings but also sound quite different. The more often strings are played, the dirtier they get. If a cloth isn’t run over and under them, from time to time, the sound becomes very dull

THE PRE-PURCHASE CHECKLIST

- Before you buy a used acoustic guitar, cost-compare against the price of a new one, unless the guitar is quite old. You could also compare its used price to other used prices by going to an online auction and either searching for the same or a similar guitar.
- Check the overall condition of the wood for cracks, scratches, splits, dents, chips, etc.
- Also check the lacquer finish for cracks and splits.
- Check the neck/fret board for warping and twisting. You can do this by holding the guitar flat on its back, with the sound hole facing upward. Bring the guitar up to eye-level, with the neck running away from you and the edge of the body almost touching your face. Let your eyesight skim across the front of the body and down the fret board. You should be able to see if the neck is twisted or bowing.
- Tune the guitar, or have the seller tune it for you.
- If you know how to play about five or six chords then play them. If you don’t know how to play, ask the seller to play them for you. This check ensures that the neck of the guitar is not warped, even though you couldn’t physically see it. If the neck is warped, and the guitar is properly tuned, then some of the chords will sound good, but others will sound as though the guitar is not tuned. If this happens, check the tuning again. If it persists, then don’t buy the guitar.
- Check the bridge of the guitar. If it’s made out of wood or plastic, make sure it’s not cracked or splitting. The bridge needs to be rock-solid, as a lot of pressure is exerted on the bridge by the strings.
- Check the tuning heads. Do they turn easily, or are they very stiff and hard to turn. Even with the high tension of the strings, a quality guitar will have tuning heads that are fairly easy to turn.
- Check the ‘action’ of the guitar. Are the strings a fair distance from the fret board? Are they easy or hard to press down at various points on the fret board?
- If you are buying the guitar for yourself, and you know how to play, even if you’re a beginner, then play the guitar.
- How does it feel?
- Is it easy or hard to play?
- Can you fit your hand around the neck/fret board comfortably to play chords?
- Is the guitar a comfortable size and shape for your body? Is it easy to hold?
- If you plan to play standing up, ask for a guitar strap.
- Do you like the sound, the color, etc?
- If you don’t play, have someone else play it for you so that you can judge what it sounds like.

PLACES TO BUY

Buying a guitar from a physical retail music store allows you to ‘test drive’ the guitar and ask more questions up front. Buying online from places like Guitar Center com or from a catalog may bring you more cash savings.

No matter where you buy your guitar, if you know what to look for, and spend a little extra effort in your search for that ‘perfect’ guitar, not only will your fingers thank you, but also your ears, and all those who will come to join you around the campfire, or even go to see you in concert. Who knows?

There is not a country in the world where registering a trademark is a requirement by law.No one or no place can make you do this. The only purpose to registering your trademark is to protect yourself and your companys reputation from those that might capitalize on it.

A good example of not registering a trademark in all the present and future markets that a company might be moving into in the future is the story of Budweiser and Budvar. When Budweiser was first brewed, the company owners did register their new trade mark with the USPTO.Nineteen years later a little brewery in the Czech town of Ceske Budejovice started to make its beer.In the German language the translation of this town and the beer was Budweis. This beer is called Budvar.

In 1911 the two breweries became aware of one another at a trade fair and made an agreement to stay out of each others chosen markets. This worked until the fall of the Berlin Wall and the expansion of both breweries.Since that time both have basically invaded the others markets.

While it is true both are registered trademarks in their respective countries and markets, the battle is on for where both wish to expand too.The makers of Budvar have admitted they have financially benefited from the reputation of Budweiser, but that does not entitle them to sole possession of the name Bud.

Luckily the brewery that makes Budvar is state owned and is not for sale at the present time.Until that changes, there will be two types of Bud beer for sale for the consumer.

By registering a trademark with the Treaty of Madrid in 1891, would have avoided this entire mess.

Everyone wants to hire the best of the best to do work for them, but not all of us can afford the best of the best’s prices! Still, if you want quality, you need to ask the right questions and ensure a good match. Here are some ways you can end up hiring a really awful graphic designer and end up regretting it.

1. Don’t choose a designer without knowing how much experience they have.
Any designer worth their salt will be able to tell you how long they’ve been designing, what background they have, any educational credentials or awards they’ve won. If a designer refuses to tell you or has absolutely no background to speak of, this should be a red flag.

2. Never choose a designer without asking for samples of their work.
The look of the webpages, graphics, or content they designed should give you some idea of their style, and whether it’s compatible with what you’re looking to have designed.

3. Don’t choose a designer without drawing up a contract.
No matter what the project is, a written agreement is always a must if you want to have a good relationship with a graphic designer. The better designers will insist on it themselves, and if not, you should insist. All the terms should be drawn out, from the project’s beginning to end.

4. Ask for, and contact, references.
Make sure you get references and call each one. Ask the reference about his experience with the designer, whether they overcharged him, how communicative and flexible they were, and so on.

5. Don’t choose a designer because they were the first to apply.
If you’re posting a general job ad, you’re probably going to get many responses. If you don’t, you need to evaluate how reasonable your posting and offered price is, whether you’re posting it in the right place, and so on. Don’t offer a designer the job simply because they were the only one to apply.

I have made some research recently regarding how and where I should keep my monies without having to worry about tax. I went down to my local bank and ask them what they would have to offer but they could only offer me a savings account with almost no interest and on this "capital gain" I would even have to pay tax.

Being disappointed with my local bank branch I decided to search the Internet for a better to my problem. After some search I stumbled upon a homepage that explained How to open an offshore account and what will be be the best jurisdiction for my new offshore account. To my surprise are there not only many banks to choose from, they also pay much more interest for my money. A homepage that was most helpful to me is Stateside Finance. They offer all offshore service you can imagine, from Tax Free Company Formation to Offshore Bank Account Opening Service.

I ordered a Personal Offshore Bank Account with Stateside Finance and just after a few minutes I received a welcome email with the instructions and information what I would have to provide in order to set up my offshore bank account as soon as possible. Again, I was surprised because all that is required is just a certified copy of my passport and a utility bill. That is all. I mailed copies by email and the original certified copies some days later by mail. After just one week my personal offshore account was opened and I transferred my money into the save harbor of an offshore bank.

Today I use online banking, I received a debit and credit card and the best of all is I don’t have to deal with tax or my financial privacy.

That’s the question I see being asked a lot of quite a few Net forums. And it’s an easy enough question to answer. Yes it’s 100% possible, if an individual know how.

Take a quick peek at free criminal background search.

People perform an split second verify on a persons background for a wide range of reasons, on the other hand the most popular are; to request marriage information, to receive criminal conviction records, to investigate work history etc. For instance, an employer may use a background check service to see if a potential employee has a criminal background. Or a parent of a young child may use the service to verify if any neighbor is a danger to the child. People obtain the point right? You can also get a criminal history report.

The just other option was to spend hundreds or even 1000s of bucks to hire a professional. Today, getting criminal record check information is easy and the info you would like is cheap and out there if yourself know where to look.

Throughout history, recycling has been around in one way or another. Even as long ago as 400 BC signs of earlier recycling are known to have taken place. Archaeological studies show that ancient waste dumps contained less of what is known today as household waste, such as pots, tools and ash, which shows that people were, even in those days, keen to reuse materials at a time when natural resources weren’t so freely available. Little did they know that what they were starting would play such a huge role in shaping the world for future generations

Indeed it could be argued that the old ‘rag-and-bone’ man was just an early recycler collecting unwanted goods on his horse and cart, before reusing or turning the collected items into something new.

During periods such as the World War Years, recycling and re-use were common place as natural resources became much more difficult to come by. As well as food being rationed, certain materials such as metal and fibre were largely permitted only for use by the government in support of military operations, to meet manufacturing requirements often in the production of weaponry.

Due to rising energy costs, the need to recycle aluminium increased in the seventies.. As a material aluminium utilises much less energy in the production process than some other materials. Also it was much sought after because of its non rusting properties. The demand for aluminium saw the rise of scrap metal merchants who were willing to pay money in exchange for good quality metal. Also, in the 70’s in parts of the United States of America, the first vehicles were seen to be collecting waste with a separate trailer for the collection of recyclable materials being towed behind the vehicle.

To the late 1980’s, early nineties and as the importance of managing the global environmental state increased amongst worldwide governments, the focus upon recycling really started to gather momentum. In the UK, the government imposed recycling targets upon Local Authorities and with the introduction of the new legislation upon the waste industry, recycling schemes really began to take off. The once commonly knownwaste disposal companies, began to call themselves waste management companies and demonstrated through the offer of waste collection and recyclable material collection that waste needed to be handled more effectively.

Today, many hundreds of materials and products can be recycled, ranging from paper, card, glass and plastics, to mobile phones, electrical items, printer cartridges, textiles, clothing and concrete. The demand for different types of collection receptacles has increased dramatically.

What is Recycling?

The term recycling describes the process of converting used materials into new or nearly new materials to avoid the need for potentially useful materials or products to be discarded. Essentially it is diverting waste from landfill.

Recycling plays a key role in a world where climate change is high on the environmental agenda. It helps to reduce the need to unnecessarily send waste materials and products to landfill or other waste disposal options. This in turn diminishes the need or the reliance upon consuming fresh or new raw materials, reduces energy use and air and water pollution, all of which contribute to lower greenhouse gas emissions. Significant contributions to improving the environment.

Recycling is probably mostnoticeable through the recycling services now provided by local councils for domestic refuse and recycling collections and by modern waste management companies who generally offer a full range of waste and recycling collection services.

To assist preserve the environment a raft of regulation exists, our website contains the information you need to assist you in order that your requirements are handled in accordance with the law.

In the waste sector, the common promotional activity surrounds the waste hierarchy - ‘reduce, reuse, recycle and recover’. This four R slogan is a simple message designed for a far reaching audience. Think about how you can reduce your waste. Can the waste products or materials be reused? Can the waste product or material be recycled or recovered?

The waste hierarchy is a strategy which many waste management companies and local authorities consider when developing new waste management strategies. The strategy is intended to focus the mind around preventing waste being produced in the first place. Consider the options for reuse and recycling but ultimately minimise the amount of waste produced at the end of the cycle.

So the emphasis is very much on the entire production process. The waste hierarchy extends much wider than to waste management companies and local authorities. Working groups have been set up to bring many sectors together to consider the entire waste cycle. For example, the manufacturer of a product needs to consider how the product is to be manufactured. Can parts be used which can later be recycled or reused? Can the amount of packaging which surrounds the product be reduced? When the product reaches the retailer, is it necessary for the product to be placed within an outer package? Once the retailer sells the product, what will the buyer do with the unwanted elements of the purchase, i.e. the packaging? How will the packaging be collected and where will it go? Will it return to a recycling plant, for onward transfer to a reprocessing plant, where the cycle begins all over again?

How are Materials Collected for Recycling?

Legislation now dictates that all waste should be treated to avoid the amount of recyclables and unnecessary waste going direct to landfill. Since 1996, UK government has applied a landfill tax on all waste disposed of within landfill. The rate of tax has increased considerably in recent years rising from the original level of £8 per ton, to today’s rate of £40 per ton. The UK government has previously announced that this will increase further to £48 per ton by the end of 2010/11. This rate applies to all general waste streams, although there is a lower rate for inert materials. Sending waste directly to landfill is an expensive option and finding suitable methods to divert waste away from landfill is now a priority.

So, the message to everyone is clear, segregate your waste to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. Traditionally, at home or at work, as soon as you place waste in the container , it is forgotten about. Someone else will collect it and take it away. Nowadays, at home and at work, recycling is being encouraged through the provision of containers in which to place certain recyclable materials.

Perhaps the most common materials to be seen being collected for recycling are paper, card, glass, metals and plastics. But the opportunity to recycle a vast number of materials or products continues to grow.

Companies such as ours are fast providing energy recovering facilities to sustain the endless challenge of what to do with all the waste materials we, as a nation, create.

The methods of collecting materials or waste to be recycled is also increasing and becoming more noticeable within local communities. Dedicated collection sites, often referred to as a bring bank sites, are springing up in supermarket car parks to encourage customers of the supermarket to return such items as bottles, newspapers or card to the containers on their way into the supermarket.

Local Authority waste collection crews or their appointed contractors will collect refuse and recyclables from the kerbside usually at the front of your home. Collection from domestic premises generally remains the responsibility of the local council and many have now employed the provision of baskets in which to collect specified recyclable materials or products.

In the industrial and commercial sector, waste management contractors offer separate containers in which the customer deposits the appropriate waste stream or recyclable material ready for collection. The bins will often be clearly labeled as to which recyclable materials should be placed within that container or bin. Alternatively, the bins will be colour coded to identify which recyclable products should be placed within which bins. Waste management companies also may have to deal with special requests from the customer.

The key to a successful recycling initiative is residents about what can be recycled and how. In the commercial world getting the co-operation of office employees is crucial. The introduction of any recycling scheme must ensure that in asking employees to separate waste for recycling, it does not become time consuming and affect the efficiency of what employees should be doing in their work.

The Recycling Process

Various collection systems exist for the collection of the recyclable products . Whichever collection system is utilised , the materials are taken to a materials recycling facility where they will be segregated from other wastes.

To begin the recycling process from a collection point of view, the more recyclable material which can be separated at source, i.e. at home or in the work place, the more efficient it will be for the waste collector. That is why separate containers are supplied to the waste producer to encourage separation at source. If card can be collected on a vehicle, which will collect no other waste material, the card will be kept clean and therefore will have a higher value when it reaches the processing plant. Similarly, dedicated glass collection vehicles are used to collect only glass. Apart from the obvious health and safety reasons and the weight of collected glass, it will have a much higher value if the collected glass load is not mixed with other waste.

Once collected, the recyclable materials can be taken direct to a reprocessing plant, if the load contains only that specific type of material. So a dedicated glass collection vehicle could take the load directly to a glass processing plant. It is more likely that the glass will have to be bulked up for onward shipment to the processor.

If mixed recyclables have been collected such as paper and card within the same container, it may be necessary for the collector to take the load to a recycling centre to unload and allow the load to be segregated into separate paper and card bundles for onward transport to a paper or card processing plant. Whichever method is used, the recyclable material collected will usually be segregated or washed before going through to a reprocessing plant to be processed to a new resource and ultimately used as a new product or in manufacturing. Inert materials can be a useful by product at landfill, for example shredded tyres to aid traction on access roads.

All corporations, great or little may be urged to introduce waste recycling schemes within their organisations.

The Increasing Importance of Recycling

In the UK around 35% of waste collected from households is recycled or composted. Whilst in the commercial and industrial sector, the volume of waste sent to landfill has declined substantially in recent years and the amount of waste now being diverted for recycling or reuse by this sector has risen above the volumes going to landfill.

Landfill continues to play an important role in the management of waste across the UK as not all wastes can be recycled and some are more suited to landfill disposal than by any other means. However, it’s not just the increasing costs of disposing of waste directly in landfill which is making recycling a more attractive option for businesses. Landfill is becoming scarce, with some experts suggesting that the amount of void available across all UK landfill sites, has less than ten years existence remaining before all sites are deemed to be full. Such countries as Dubai have filled parts of the coastline with their waste and created useful land area to extend the boundaries of their country.

In recent years, waste management companies have had to change their focus, and start to consider and invest in new technologies, such as energy from waste plants, anaerobic digestion plants and mechanical biological treatment plants, as alternatives to landfill. Local Authorities have also changed their views by undertaking comprehensive strategic reviews as to how waste under their jurisdiction should be handled. In some cases this has meant that unitary authorities are progressing plans to introduce long term contracts, usually around 25 years in length, through which to manage their entire waste management requirements. These contracts will often include the need to build a facility through which to handle all waste generated across the city by segregating all waste streams. The contracts may also include the collection of all waste and recyclables from homes across the area. So the face of waste management is changing rapidly. The days of just throw it in the dustbin have disappeared and the advent of new technologies are upon us.

Conclusion

Recycling is now a way of life and is here to stay. It has evolved over the years from something that was undertaken without any real thought behind it. The trusty rag and bone man was just trying to make a living. Today, many blue chip organisations are setting out plans for a ‘zero to landfill’ waste policy, where the intention is very clear - reduce waste, reuse waste and recycle waste, but no waste must end up in landfill. Some companies have announced ambitious target dates by which to achieve such policies.

Many homes across the country now have some form of container in which to separate waste for recycling. The need to separate newspapers, aluminium cans and plastic bottles are almost common place. Whilst in industrial and commercial sectors, there is an increasing list of items to consider for recycling such as printer cartridges, office paper, metal and electrical equipment.

Ideally the whole process would be a complete cycle such as it was in the days of the horse. However the advent of new technologies will accelerate further the way in which our waste is to be managed in the future, but it is highly unlikely that we will ever reach the ultimate waste free society.

Introduction

Not all businesses can maintain the costly sponsorship and promotional expectations of being involved in major sporting events such as Formula One, the Open Golf and the Premier League. Across these high profile events, businesses will spend millions of pounds to have their brand associated with sporting events which will attract worldwide media attention, through TV, radio, press and in today’s technological world, on line media.

In today’s current economic climate however, many businesses have had to think carefully about their promotional expenditure. Whilst some luxury brands have continued to maintain high promotional spend levels, many have not been able to keep pace and have looked to adjust their spending to low cost promotional items.

There is a huge selection of low cost promotional items available from the leading suppliers of promotional items. Many of these organisations have seen a huge upturn in the supply of low cost promotional items as businesses strive to maintain or increase awareness of their products or services in a downturn. To what extent are businesses and individuals turning to low-cost items during the recession?

As we approach the festive season and parties are being planned to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, the vast range of low cost promotional items available is worth a look. Even if you have a limited budget to work with this year, there will almost certainly be items to meet your requirements.

Changing Times in The use of Promotional Marketing Products

As Marketing Manager for a leading brand in the waste management sector increasing awareness of the brand through the use of marketing promotional products, was just as important as it would be in any industry. Although not having the vast promotions budgets of some organisations, over the last two years the company’s purchasing of promotional items changed dramatically. The company had always been recognised for using promotional items to good effect and research proved that brand recognition had been enhanced due to the quality of our promotional products. However, one promotional item which was much sought after was the pocket diary. The distribution of the 15 month diary contained within a leather wallet and issued each October, had become very popular with customers, employees and business associates. The diary also presented the company an opportunity to include a different promotional insert each year, with a marketing message to increase awareness of a service which the company wished to increase awareness of.

Within the diary, a reply card was inserted which could be returned by the recipient to register to receive the following years diary. Over time, the list had grown and more than 600 diaries were sent out in its last year. However, with the current economic situation came the need to review the expenditure of promotional marketing items and the diary was to be withdrawn from our promotional spend. In considering alternative diary options, it was felt that the quality and reputation of that item could not be matched and any reduction in quality could have a damaging impact upon the recipients’ perception of the company. Used to good effect, low cost promotional products can maintain awareness of your business in the market place.

The company did retain some low cost promotional items which included a range of pens, pencils, rulers which were to be used at exhibitions, as sales giveaways and to hand out to school children following schools visits. This is just one example of how businesses have been affected by the economic climate and have really had to look at reducing expenditure levels across the business.

Businesses need to weigh up the value that promotional products bring to the bottom line and if it cannot be proven, then the chances are that in today’s climate, the promotional items will be cut.

They are available in many colours and low-cost printed promotional satin sashes are a great idea for any event.

Usually at this time of year, the major retail stores have already decorated their stores or in store sales areas with Christmas decorations. The Christmas message seems to start earlier each year. I was in London only last week and it is very clear to me that many of the big retail stores have already started their Christmas promotions in earnest. However, walking home through my local town the same evening, the amount of Christmas decorations in shop front windows appeared much less high impact than in London. This got me thinking as to whether the major retailers have decided to spend more heavily on promoting Christmas in their major city stores, but less at local level? So to my mind shops appear to be spending less on Christmas decorations and promotions this year.

Effective use of Low Cost Promotional Items

If you are not familiar with the huge range of items available from promotional marketing suppliers, I would certainly recommend that you take a few minutes to check out a supplier out on line. I guarantee that you will be amazed at the unique selection of low cost promotional marketing products available for promotional use. Whatever your need whether it be for a sales conference, a sales promotion campaign, an in-store promotion or point of sale advertising, or as a corporate give-away, there are promotional products to suit every budget.

A new store opened in early November in the Town where I live. There had been a full page promotional article and advert in the local paper announcing its arrival and opening date. As I passed by the shop on its first day of opening, several members of staff were outside simply wearing a bright red sash across their body with the name of the shop printed on it. They were handing out bright red balloons again with the shops name on it, to any child passing by or going into the store. What struck me was how simple and cheap that little piece of promotion would have cost. The child is likely to remember that they were given a balloon at that shop and will want to return to see if they would receive another one.

Equally for personal use, for that special occasion birthday party, wedding or anniversary, a simple range of decorative ideas can be supplied. Balloons, ribbons, confetti can all be colour coordinated to make a very impressive looking display as you enter the function room and leave a lasting impression. My local football club last year hosted a Christmas party and decorated each table of ten in the club colours. It made for an striking entrance with paper table cloths in light blue, balloons in dark blue, with light blue ribbons attached. All of these decorations would not have been expensive to purchase.

It’s easy to find low cost promotional products and promotional items by searching on line.

Low Cost Promotional Products on the Political Stage

It’ll be interesting to see how the political parties gear up to promote their party and manifesto in the run up to next year’s General Election. Will they recognise that the economy is not where it should be and therefore remain mindful of the need to not be too extravagant with expenditure. There has been enough bad press about MPs expenses and other parliamentary goings-on, without attracting more unnecessary attention at a time when each political party should be focused on attracting the public’s vote through the communication of clear positive messages to gain enough support to be elected to govern the country.

In the past, I recall seeing thousands of flags, bunting and ribbons hanging from local constituency offices and being used on the campaign trail. The UK election campaigns have in more recent times, taken on much more of the American style razzamatazz. Packed town halls and other local community establishments will I am sure be decorated in the political colours of its local candidates. If you recall the US presidential election, every time you saw the candidates giving speeches to packed houses, it appeared that almost every member of the audience waved a small candidates flag. The walls of the meeting place were decked with coloured bunting and more flags. The flags were printed to include a simple message about the candidates manifesto along with a picture of the candidate.

The political parties may need to purchase large quantities of promotional products to help communicate their messages, but it doesn’t have to be expensive. One of the most important points for any political party member out on the campaign trail is to be recognised. If you were honest, unless it was one of the more high profile members of parliament, would you know your local MP if you passed her in the street? A simple coloured sash across the MPs body in the colour of the political party represented would be perfect for instant identity.

I have seen my local MP in town, canvassing support and promoting his weekly constituency surgery wearing a blue sash to identify him. The sash was printed with the words ‘vote conservative’ printed in white. Wearing his blue sash, blue tie and name badge he seemed to be meeting a good number of people enabling him to communicate his message and listen to people’s views. I suspect that there will be one or two more extravagant promotional items in use as we get nearer to the election period, but suppliers of promotional marketing products would do well to be aiming to promote their products to the parties as early as possible as there will be some lucrative business on offer.

Thousands of flags, thousands of pieces of bunting, thousands of balloons and badges to suggest a few, but I am sure that the list will become much longer. Many of the flags available from promotional product suppliers are now made from environmentally friendly materials and therefore when disposed of cause no harm to the environment.

Find a specialist supplier of balloons on line, to advise on all your needs.

The Environmental Concerns of Promotional Products

One item of concern which is high on the agenda of any organisation or business is the environment. Whether you are a business, a charity or even a private organiser of an event, avoiding publicity likely to damage your reputation is an essential part of the organisation of your event.

Suppliers of promotional products, have taken environmental concerns very seriously and now have many products available manufactured from recycled or biodegradable material. In recent years, many school or charity events seem to involve the release of hundreds of balloons as part of the celebration or launch. A few years ago, these types of event were criticised because the balloons explode into tiny pieces once they reach a height of around five miles and new regulations were introduced to ensure that only environmentally friendly balloons were used at these events. The guidelines stipulate that latex balloons must be used for these types of event as they are completely biodegradable. Latex balloons contain a material which will allow it to be used to make compost. The regulations also state that the balloons must be tied and no plastic valve inserted and any messages must be added on recycled paper. A couple of years ago a school boy released a balloon at a school fete and the message containing his name and address was discovered in the grounds of Windsor Castle. The Queen took time out to write to the school boy and the event ended up on TV.

Recycled materials now play a huge part in the production of promotional items. Environmental flags and bunting are made from recycled paper, which is biodegradable and come with a child-safe stick. Various products such as coasters are made from recycled tyres and coasters, rulers, pens and pencils are available made from recycled vending cups. Biodegradable carrier bags, cotton carrier bags and organic clothing extend the environmental range. Environmental promotional products are a great way to communicate your message.
